Valot Tape Echo

Three tape heads,

one peerless,

velvety orbit

Inside the Echo Orbit

The Golden Finnish Recipe

A meticulous tribute to an iconic tone blueprint. We've emulated the master's exact chain philosophy: use the Cable Load control to subtly roll off harsh transients and fatten the front end, wash it through the multi-head Echo Orbit, and bind the entire texture using a studio-grade glue compressor.

Peerless Softness, Six Modes

Inspired by the coveted Pearl/Vorg EO-301 lineage, the Echo Orbit delivers a pillow-soft, dark, and warm echo texture that modern digital delays simply cannot recreate. A rotary selector sweeps through six head combinations, taking you from a smoky slapback to dense, beautifully organic ambient tapestries.

Organic Bloom & Saturated Runaway

Adjust the Comp Release pot from a snappy, rhythmic pump to a smooth, unified bloom that fuses your phrases together. Push the Instrument drive to hit the tape loop hard for rich analog saturation, dial in the randomized Wow & Flutter for an unstable warble, or crank Echo Repeat to send the unit into glorious, self-oscillating feedback.

Schematic parameters

What do the knobs actually do?

Instrument

drive

Drive into the JFET input booster at the front of the chain. It sets how hard the instrument hits the record path, controlling tape saturation and how much the repeats compress and bloom rather than acting as a simple level trim.

Echo Delay

delay

Tape speed and delay time. The longest head maps linearly from 130 ms to 650 ms, with the three heads placed at one-third, two-thirds, and the full selected time.

Comp Sustain

compSustain

Glue-compressor sustain and threshold. Higher settings lower the threshold for more squash, keeping the dry-plus-echo blend lifted and letting repeats sustain longer.

Mode Select

mode

Six-position tape-head selector. Choose head 1, head 2, head 3, heads 1+2, heads 2+3, or all three heads; the same selected heads are heard and fed back into the loop.

Comp Release

compRelease

Glue-compressor release from 40 ms to 800 ms. Low settings feel snappy and pump between notes; high settings recover smoothly and fuse the echoes together.

Echo Repeat

repeat

Feedback and regeneration amount. It controls the number of repeats and reaches intentional self-oscillation near the top for runaway tape-echo effects.

Echo Volume

mix

Wet echo level against the dry signal, setting the practical wet/dry balance from subtle reinforcement to front-and-center repeats.

Cable Load

cable

Models the high-frequency loss of the instrument cable feeding the unit, adding a subtle pre-booster treble roll-off and loading feel.

Wow & Flutter

wowflutter

Tape speed modulation: slow wow plus faster flutter, mostly aperiodic for a natural tape feel. Turn it up for audible pitch wobble on the repeats.
