Secrets Behind the Tone

Shifting the Tectonic Plates

The Tone control is where you reshape the whole landscape. Roll it counter-clockwise and the signal floods with a dark, chest-hitting low-end resonance—like massive cabinet arrays vibrating the floorboards of an underground venue, perfect for slow, lumbering, earth-shaking grooves. Sweep it clockwise and the edge sharpens into a biting upper-mid presence peak: an intense, high-density structural weapon that keeps your massive, layered chords fully articulate and sharply defined.

A Wall That Fights Back

There's no clean channel and no safety net—just seven transistors stacked into one relentless gain cascade with no low-gain range. The last two output transistors run reverse-biased on purpose, so as a note decays the circuit clamps down into a gated, sputtering splatter before it finally chokes out. Paired with the soft germanium clipping diodes at the output, it delivers that volatile, on-the-edge analog chaos that makes every chord feel like it's barely being held together.

What do the knobs actually do?

Fuzz

VR1

The main engine room for the seven-transistor gain cascade. A custom-calibrated taper stretches out the usable range of an already brutal circuit: ease back for a raw, spitting crunch, then open it up into a monolithic, high-density wall of saturated sustain. There's no clean range here—at the extremes the reverse-biased output stages start to gate and sputter, giving you the ragged, decaying splatter this circuit is built around.

Tone

VR2

A passive, multi-branch tone network wired directly into the heart of the physical germanium clipping stage. Counter-clockwise dials in a deep, dark, bass-heavy cabinet feel that maximizes sub-frequency mass; clockwise unlocks a biting upper-mid presence peak that slices your densest chords cleanly through the mix with razor-sharp authority.

Volume

VR3

A master output control packed with massive internal headroom. It delivers more than enough output level to hammer the input stage of a virtual tube amplifier, forcing the digital power tubes into a rich secondary compression and organic clipping.
